A new study published in the Journal of Plastic Dermatology (2013: Vol.9) found that thymus peptides decrease hair loss and improve erythemes, reduce itching and seborrhea in patients with telogen effluvium (TE) and androgenetic alopecia (AGA). For “Multicentric Study of the Effects of Topical Lotion and Shampoo Containing Synthetic Thymus Peptides on Androgenetic Alopecia and Chronic Telogen Effluvium in Women and Men,” M Barbareschi, et al, followed 366 patients with chronic TE and first AGA stages, who used a thymus peptide serum and a shampoo based on synthetic thymus peptides (Timosint/Thymuskin).
The researchers observed a decrease in hair loss in 98% of subjects, based on pull-tests and an improvement in accompanying symptoms of TE and AGA, including erythemes, itching and seborrhoea. Positive cosmetic acceptance and tolerance was recorded in 98% of the cases.
