Male patients with photodamage on their scalps may benefit from treatment with the 1,927nm thulium fiber laser, according to a new study published in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine (July 2017). Monica Boen, MD, et al, treated four male patients (Fitzpatrick skin types II-III) with extensive photodamage on the scalp using a nonablative fractional 1,927nm thulium fiber laser (one session) at high density and high energy settings.
The subjects had a 60% to 90% improvement in dyspigmentation, lentigines and keratosis. The treatment was well tolerated and the researchers observed no adverse events.
