Surgeons Launch New Hair Restoration Society

Hair restoration surgeon Stephen J. Ronan, MD, FACS, of Danville, California, has founded the North American Society for Hair Restoration (NASHR) with Stephen Mulholland, MD, FRCS, of Canada, Grant Stevens, MD, FACS, of Marina Del Rey, California, and Richard Chaffoo, MD, FACS, FICS, of La Jolla, California. The NASHR is a nonprofit medical association with the goal of becoming the leading authority on hair restoration. It will promote the highest standards of ethical conduct and responsible patient care among hair restoration surgeons; deliver continuing hair restoration education to members; and inform the public of hair restoration treatment options and the importance of the proper training of hair restoration surgeons.

“Membership is only offered to those whose core specialties are in plastic surgery, facial plastic surgery and dermatology,” said Dr. Ronan. “These core specialties have the proper training for hair transplantation surgery. Over the years it has concerned me that physicians without formal training in the aesthetic industry and without formal training in hair restoration surgery have been performing these procedures. This often results in less than desirable results for the patients suffering from hair loss. NASHR will educate the public regarding the importance of physician training in the core aesthetic fields.”

NASHR’s inaugural event was held at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) Conference in Las Vegas last April, and its next meeting will be held at the Vegas Cosmetic Surgery Conference on June 11, 2016, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lago inside the Bellagio hotel.
