Dermal filler Teosyal RHA 3 (Revance Therapeutics) is safe and effective for hand rejuvenation, offering revolumization up to 12 months as well as improvements in skin texture and appearance, according to a study published in the Journal of Drugs in Dermatology (online first, March 8, 2021).
Patrick Micheels, MD, et al, evaluated the outcomes of five female subjects (56- to 67-years-old) with moderate-to-severe hand aging, who were treated at Dr. Micheel’s practice in Geneva, Switzerland. The HA filler was injected in the hypodermis using a retrograde injection technique, followed by massage at the site. Four subjects had a touch-up three months after the initial treatment. Five evaluators assessed outcomes up to 12 months following the last injection using the Merz Aesthetic Hand Aging Scale (MAS) and the Global Aesthetic Improvement Scale (GAIS) scores.
MAS and GAIS scores showed stable and significant improvement in hand aging up to 12 months following the last injection. Despite a slight decrease over time, the evaluators noted “a durable enhancement of skin glow, quality and hydration on the GAIS.”
The treatment was well tolerated by all subjects and generally described as “painless.”
