Masanori Tamura has shared his 2022 trends and predictions for the skin care industry.
Tamura is the formulator and head of product development for Epicutis. He created Hada Labo, a Japanese skin care line, before joining Epicutis and their parent company Signum Biosciences.
Here are his predictions:
- Environmentally Responsible Approach to Skin Care: As the world moves toward more environmentally responsible behaviors, more people will search for skin care products in the Environmental Working Group (EWG) database and the demand for products with fewer, cleaner, non-toxic, gentle ingredients will grow. Skin care will move away from longer routines and towards a more minimal approach with fewer steps.
- Fermented Skin care/Skin Microbiome Skin Care: In Asia, fermented foods have been a key element of everyday diets for hundreds of years, to keep people healthy and promote longevity. Skin microbiome research, with case studies focusing on topics such as atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, acne, allergy, wounds, scalp and anti-aging, have come a long way in recent years. Using fermented and skin microbiome technologies will be a huge trend in 2022.
- Blue Light Skin Care: As people become more aware of the effects of visible light on skin aging, concern around the effects of blue light on the skin, such as premature aging and hyperpigmentation, is growing. However, there are not many skin care options to fight against blue light in the market. Science-backed blue light skin care products will be another trend in demand in 2022.
