Charles E. Crutchfield III, MD, Wins Lifetime Achievement Award

The 2016 Tweed Webb Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to dermatologist Charles E. Crutchfield III, MD, at the annual Society for American Baseball Research (SABR) Jerry Malloy Negro League Conference in Kansas City on July 9, 2016.

The annual award recognizes a Baseball Historian/Researcher who has made a positive impact preserving Negro League History with dedication and commitment exemplifying Tweed Webb’s passion, pride and excellence.

Dr. Crutchfield’s dedication and leadership involve volunteer work, community enrichment and the establishment of the Jimmie Crutchfield Scholarship for graduating high school seniors attending college. He has spent years researching the Negro Leagues and tracking down information on his great uncle, Jimmie Crutchfield.

Dr. Crutchfield is a lifelong Minnesota Twins fan and was an avid baseball card collector growing up. He is reviving that American pastime by starting Crutchfield Card Company (www.crutchfieldcardcompany.com) and creating cards of Negro League and MLB greats. The company produces limited-run series of high-quality, retro-style art cards from his oil paintings. Last summer individual cards were given away at a Twins game to 5,000 fans; the cards have since sold out and have become sought-after collectibles.

Congratulations Dr. Crutchfield!
